Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police have arrested a Carleton Place man following two robberies in the community.
Officers were called to a business on Franktown Road just before 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Police say a man entered the store, threatened an employee and fled with cigarettes.
With help from the OPP Canine Unit and members of the Emergency Response Team, officers located and arrested a suspect a short time later. During the arrest, police also seized a quantity of suspected cocaine.
Investigators say the accused was already wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant connected to a similar robbery reported in Carleton Place on Christmas Day.
A 38-year-old man from Carleton Place is now facing multiple charges, including two counts of armed robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking. He is also charged with failing to comply with a release order and a probation order.
The accused was remanded into custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
