Smiths Falls Police laid several charges following a series of intimate partner violence investigations over the New Year’s period.
Police say officers responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls between Dec. 31, 2025, and Jan. 4, 2026, involving reports of intimate partner violence disputes in progress at residences in the community.
In the first incident, on Dec. 31, officers attended a residence after receiving multiple emergency calls.
One person was taken into custody at the scene. As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old woman from Smiths Falls was charged with assault and assault with a weapon. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
On Jan. 1, police responded to another report of intimate partner violence. The suspect was located and arrested shortly after.
A 20-year-old man from Smiths Falls was charged with assault and held in custody for a bail court hearing.
Another incident on Jan. 2 involved a reported IPV dispute in progress. One suspect was taken into custody without incident.
A 35-year-old man from Smiths Falls was charged with mischief under $5,000 and held for a bail hearing.
Police were again called to a residence on Jan. 4 for an intimate partner violence dispute. A suspect was arrested at the scene.
A 45-year-old man from Smiths Falls was charged with assault and mischief under $5,000 and held in custody pending a bail court appearance.
All charges have yet to be proven in court.
