Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre faces a mandatory leadership review later this month after the party failed to form government in the last federal election.
The vote is scheduled for the party’s nation convention in Calgary from January 29-31.
After losing his Ottawa-area seat in Carleton in April, Poilievre won a federal byelection in Alberta’s Battle River-Crowfoot riding in August. That hasn’t affected Barrett’s loyalties.
He believes Poilievre deserves the support, and points to history and a former Conservative leader as a reference point.
Under Poilievre, the Conservatives had once appeared poised for a historic majority, but tings changed rapidly after U.S. trade tensions swelled, and Mark Carney took over as Liberal Leader.
The upcoming vote will give Conservative Party members the chance to decide whether Poilievre should remain leader for the foreseeable future.
