A new episode of Silence Broken: The IPV Talks is shining a light on intimate partner violence in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, a topic hosts Bob Perreault and Erin Lee say can be overlooked.
Lee, executive director of Lanark County Interval House, says violence in queer relationships is real and can take unique forms.
She explains threats like “outing” a partner or withholding gender-affirming care are tactics not always seen in heterosexual relationships.
Lee adds many systems still operate through a hetero-normative lens, which can lead to missed warning signs when responding to incidents.
This week’s conversation also highlights barriers faced in rural communities, including stigma, limited services, and past discrimination.
The podcast aims to keep IPV visible in all relationships and encourage more inclusive support systems across Lanark County.
