Brockville tragedy sparks urgent warning about femicide and community healing
A Canadian women’s advocate says the triple femicide in Brockville will leave deep wounds across the community for a long time.
Pamela Cross, a Canadian feminist lawyer and women’s advocate, joined Bob Perreault on this week’s Silence Broken: The IPV Talks to discuss the deaths of Lawanda “Wanda” Elliott, Michaela Elliott and Nikita Elliott.
Cross said tragedies like this can hit smaller communities especially hard.
Cross said the case also raises important questions about warning signs, especially involving young people.
Cross said teens can sometimes fall through the cracks when they are afraid to talk about stalking, harassment or fear in a relationship.
She said Brockville residents should expect lasting effects from the tragedy.
Cross said compassion and support will be needed as Brockville mourns and looks for ways to prevent future tragedies.
