Arklan Community School in Carleton Place was one of two winners of the Ted Kennedy Award, given out annually to the schools who raised the most money per student for the Terry Fox Foundation.
The award was created in 2011 in honour of the late Ted Kennedy, a Superintendent with the UCDSB, and a tireless supporter of the Terry Fox Foundation.
Arklan raised $20,634, the 15th highest amount for Ontario elementary schools.
UCDSB Executive Superintendent Chris Boulay said Arklan’s student body rallied behind their own this year.
Sam was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, the same cancer Terry Fox had, in September 2023, as she was heading into her senior year of high school at Smiths Falls Fistrict Collegiate Institute.
Chris Boulay said the student body also had a gift for their VP.
Arklan raised more than $11,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation in 2024, also in the name of Rudge.
