A major community project in Smiths Falls is getting closer to opening its doors.
The new Falls Food Hub location is nearing the end of major renovations, with the space now taking shape after months of work.
Ashley Saunders, operation lead with the Falls Food Hub, says the team is getting closer to moving in.
The goal is to hold a soft opening in August, with a larger grand opening celebration expected later in the fall.
The new site will include a welcoming dining area and a more permanent home for the team’s growing community meal program.
Saunders says having a real home for the equipment and programs is a big step forward.
The Falls Food Hub plans to move its Monday community lunch to the new location once it opens. Saunders says the team also hopes to add a Tuesday evening dinner.
She says local trades and 2B Construction have played a major role in bringing the space to life.
Saunders says the hub will be about much more than food. She says it will also help connect people with community supports, services and resources.
Saunders says everyone will be welcome at the meals, with donations appreciated but not required.
She says the most important step is getting people through the door, sharing a meal and helping them feel connected.
