A call from a concerned motorist helped Ontario Provincial Police stop and charge a suspected impaired driver in Almonte.
Lanark County OPP officers pulled over a vehicle on Martin Street North shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 19.
Police said an officer saw the vehicle being driven in an unsafe manner. The traffic stop followed an earlier report from another driver about a possible impaired motorist in the area.
The driver was arrested and taken to the OPP detachment in Carleton Place for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, 35-year-old Mississippi Mills Township resident Mitchell Ladoucer was charged with operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
Ladoucer was also charged with failing to surrender an insurance card and failing to surrender a vehicle permit.
The charges have not been proven in court.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Monday, September 14.
Police also issued an immediate 90-day driver’s licence suspension. The vehicle involved was impounded for seven days.
OPP continue to encourage motorists to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911 when it is safe to do so. Officers say reports from the public can help prevent serious collisions and keep roads safer.
