Classic cars, community spirit and support for the local Legion will come together in Toledo next month.
The Rideau Rides and Rides Car Club is preparing for its third annual car show at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 475 on Concession Road 8. Club member Dave Linstead says the event runs Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with Aug. 3 as the rain date.
Organizers expect more than 200 vehicles, giving visitors a close look at antiques, street rods, sports cars, English models and Japanese imports.
Admission is free for spectators, while vehicle owners pay a $10 registration fee. The BBQ will serve hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, pulled pork, beef on a bun and fries, along with a beer garden and indoor cooling station.
Linstead says the event reflects a lifelong interest. He has loved classic cars for as long as he can remember, briefly switched to motorcycles, then returned to four wheels after getting tired of riding in the rain.
Linstead now has six vehicles, including a recent purchase by his wife, and jokes that collecting them can feel like being a shopaholic.
Ken Manwell’s connection began after moving to the area in 2013. A local cruise night introduced him to Linstead and his wife, starting a friendship and eventually leading Manuel to help organize weekly gatherings and weekend shows.
Manuel drives a red 2003 Corvette, but said the people are as important as the cars. The club has also taken vehicles to nursing homes, including one visit where a 99-year-old woman climbed into his Corvette.
The show will feature dozens of prizes, a 50-50 draw and several $100 cash giveaways. Proceeds will support Toledo Legion Branch 475.
