Monday’s Civic Holiday is giving Lanark County residents one more summer day to sleep in, hit the water or tackle the barbecue — but it will also lock several doors.
Municipal offices across Lanark County, including town halls in Perth, Smiths Falls and Carleton Place, will be closed Monday, Aug. 3. Lanark County offices will also be closed, along with provincial government offices and federal service locations, including Service Canada.
Canada Post will not collect or deliver mail. Corporate post offices will be closed, although postal counters inside privately operated businesses may follow the host store’s hours.
Most banks and libraries will also be closed. Emergency services will continue operating, and residents should use municipal after-hours numbers for urgent water, sewer or road issues.
There is better news for anyone whose long-weekend refreshments run low. Selected LCBO stores will open, while LCBO offices are closed. Nearly 100 Beer Store locations across Ontario will operate, but local shoppers should check the locator before making a bottle run.
Lanark Highlands is switching its holiday waste schedule: transfer stations normally open Sunday will close Aug. 2, then open Monday using Sunday hours.
Some grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, convenience stores and retailers will open Monday, often with reduced hours.
The safest holiday strategy? Call ahead — then return to the hammock.
