Seven Perth Stingrays competed against some of the province’s top swimmers last month at the Ontario Swimming Championships.
Swimmers must meet two Ontario Championship Standards to qualify for the event.
Representing Perth were Allie Licari, Ben Tanner, Gavin Peden, Jayden Peden, Nathan MacPhee, Mykal Gaudaur Webb and Olivia Gillieson.
MacPhee won silver in the boys’ 13-to-14 50-metre freestyle, while Licari earned five top-10 finishes in the girls’ 11-and-under category. Gaudaur Webb placed fifth in the boys’ 15-to-16 50-metre freestyle.
MacPhee, Gavin Peden, Jayden Peden and Gaudaur Webb also competed in four 15-and-over relay events, setting a new Perth Stingrays club record in each one.
The strong showing capped a historic season for the club.
Stingrays swimmers broke 33 individual records and 17 relay records, while a record number qualified for Eastern Regionals.
The club also received the Eastern Ontario Small Team Award at both the short-course and long-course championships.
