Smiths Falls residents and visitors are being reminded not to feed wildlife in local parks and public spaces.
That includes the geese often seen along the Rideau Canal.
While feeding animals may seem helpful, the town says human food can harm their health and cause them to become dependent on people. It can also encourage aggressive behaviour, especially when animals begin expecting food from visitors.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy wildlife from a safe distance and allow animals to find their own natural food sources.
Anyone who finds injured, sick or distressed wildlife in Smiths Falls can visit the town’s animal control webpage for information about who to contact and what steps to take.
