A long-time Smiths Falls resident, Bill Dickson is seeking a council seat after a 25 year career with the Ontario Provincial Police.
Bill Dickson said municipal politics has always been an interest, but he now has the time after retiring from the OPP and holding a part-time position at Lanark Animal Welfare Society as their executive director.
He admits to a certain bias towards OPP policing, but says the debate between having provincial or municipal police service coverage should be explored.
Dickson says the town gets excellent policing with the Smiths Falls Police Service, who work nearly daily with the OPP.
We asked him his thoughts on the proposed ALTO high speed rail project, and what role the town should play, if any.
