Carleton Place council candidate Lori Goulding says she is running because she is proud to call the community home and wants to help guide its continued growth. She has the unique perspective of believing the current council is doing well.
Goulding has spent the past decade in union leadership, representing employees and advocating on their behalf. She currently serves as the elected president of her union group.
She says that role has provided experience in leadership, problem-solving and working with people who have different perspectives.
Goulding has also taken part in several rounds of collective bargaining. She says the experience has taught her the importance of listening, preparation and asking difficult questions while looking for common ground.
She believes those skills can translate directly to municipal government, where councillors may disagree but still need to work respectfully toward solutions.
If elected, Goulding says her approach would be to listen to residents, learn from experienced councillors and town staff, and contribute her own experience and perspective.
