Smiths Falls is putting more money behind efforts to improve the look and usefulness of its downtown core.
Town council awarded more than $94,000 through the Community Improvement Plan on May 25, helping property owners pay for façade improvements, heritage work and interior upgrades.
Scott’s Shoe Store was among the businesses approved for support after recently joining the downtown.
Its $16,240 project includes new signage, a retractable awning, exterior lighting, planter boxes and an electrical upgrade from fuse panels to modern electrical panels.
The town approved $12,334 in funding for the work.
Officials say the program is designed to help make downtown buildings more attractive and functional while preserving the heritage character of the area.
The town is now accepting applications for its fall intake, giving other business and property owners a chance to take part.
Eligible projects may qualify for funding covering up to 85 per cent of costs.
