Smiths Falls council candidate Alex Brown says affordability, transparency and better data would guide his decisions if elected this fall.
Brown, who has lived in Smiths Falls for more than 10 years, says the town is at a crossroads as it faces major infrastructure and financial decisions.
He has worked with federal and provincial agencies on IT and accessibility initiatives, but has no previous municipal government experience.
Brown says affordability would be a key priority, with council decisions needing to consider how they affect residents’ wallets. He also wants Smiths Falls to remain accessible and welcoming to seniors, young families and people of all ages.
On the proposed Alto high-speed rail project, Brown says he is not taking a firm position until more information is available.
Brown says he wants more information on the project’s potential impact before deciding what role the town should play.
He had a similar answer when asked about policing, saying Smiths Falls should not immediately move to OPP coverage.
Brown says he would focus on cost-effective improvements and transparency if elected.
