Smiths Falls Councillor Dawn Quinn is seeking re-election, saying she wants to continue helping guide the town’s growth and work on infrastructure projects.
Quinn points to the town’s new water tower and walking bridge as accomplishments from the current term.
She says there is still work to do, including infrastructure improvements and a new public works building.
Quinn is also taking a firm position against the proposed Alto high-speed rail project.
Quinn says Smiths Falls would be better served by investing in the existing rail system, including more frequent service to Ottawa.
On policing, Quinn says she is happy with the Smiths Falls Police Service but believes its costs need to be addressed.
Quinn says she would need to closely examine the numbers before supporting a move to OPP coverage.
Looking ahead, she also wants the town to address the rise in flooding due to increasingly heavy rainfall, promote local events and continue preparing for future growth.
She says Smiths Falls has plenty to offer visitors and wants to see the community do more to promote itself.
