Chance Lauziere-Peterson is making another run for Smiths Falls council, saying the town’s future, affordability and municipal leadership are among the issues that pushed him back into the race.
He also says his connection to Smiths Falls remains a major reason for running. Born and raised in the town, he returned after spending time away and is now raising his family there.
Lauziere-Peterson previously ran for council four years ago. He says that campaign taught him the importance of listening and communicating with residents, because people have different views about what Smiths Falls needs.
He says several issues raised during his first campaign remain concerns today.
Lauziere-Peterson says there are a number of challenges facing the town.
He says that does not mean Smiths Falls has failed to make progress.
Lauziere-Peterson says the next council should recognize where improvements have been made, address problems that remain and continue building on the town’s momentum.
As for the proposed Alto high-speed rail project and what role the town should play, Peterson told lanarkleedstoday.ca, “while I support getting the town easier commuter access to other markets, we have to be careful what we open up ourselves to, or what we sacrifice to attain it.”
The 2026 municipal election is set for October 26th.
