Carleton Place resident Shane O’Neill has officially confirmed his nomination for Carleton Place Town Council in the 2026 municipal election.
O’Neill says he wants to be a voice for young families while focusing on public safety, traffic management and responsible development as the community continues to grow.
O’Neill, 37, lives in Carleton Place with his wife, Sarah, and their toddler. He works remotely in sales for an international tour operator and has served on the town’s volunteer Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee since 2022. He grew up in Kanata and the Ottawa Valley and has worked as a journalist, public servant, and management and communications consultant.
O’Neill also has recent political campaign experience.
He ran as an independent candidate in the Lanark–Frontenac–Kingston riding during the 2025 provincial election.
He says that campaign gave him an opportunity to meet hundreds of residents and gain a better understanding of the issues facing Carleton Place and communities throughout Lanark County. He says he has much to offer voters.
O’Neill says his municipal campaign will focus on ensuring public infrastructure keeps pace with population growth, while addressing traffic and public safety concerns.
He says he also wants to see responsible development and a municipal funding model that provides growing communities with the resources needed to maintain infrastructure, facilities and services. O’Neill says his experience as a candidate in the provincial election, combined with his community involvement, has prepared him to take on a municipal role.
