Lanark County residents have only a few more chances to get rid of household hazardous waste before the county disposal site closes for the year.
The Household Hazardous Waste Depot in Carleton Place will close for the 2026 season at noon on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Carleton Place hosts the disposal site used by residents from across Lanark County.
Until closing day, the depot will continue accepting materials on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
Residents are being encouraged to make the trip before the final weekend if possible to avoid longer lineups on Sept. 5.
The facility accepts household materials that should not be placed in regular garbage or recycling because they may pose environmental or safety risks.
Anyone planning a visit should check the accepted-materials list before heading out.
Once the depot closes in September, it will remain shut through the fall and winter.
The facility is scheduled to reopen in May 2027.
For Lanark County residents with old paint, chemicals or other hazardous materials still sitting around the house, the next few Saturdays are the final opportunity to dispose of them locally this year.
