Smiths Falls residents may have noticed more police officers out in the community this summer, and the local service says there are several reasons behind the increased visibility.
Smiths Falls Police Service Constable Sean Keogan says staffing improvements have helped officers spend more time interacting with residents and carrying out proactive police work.
Keogan says officers are enthusiastic about being at work and getting out into the community.
New hires have also contributed to the increased presence.
Keogan says that has allowed the service to put additional attention on several areas of policing beyond responding to calls for service.
The increased visibility came during a busy summer in Smiths Falls, with officers attending community gatherings and maintaining a presence during several local events.
Keogan says the response he has heard from residents has been overwhelmingly positive.
The service has also made community engagement a priority, giving officers opportunities to speak with residents outside emergency or enforcement situations.
Keogan says that connection is helping police remain a visible part of the Smiths Falls community.
