Kimberly Brown is entering the race for mayor of Rideau Lakes, saying she wants to bring a fresh perspective and a more collaborative approach to township council.
Brown, who has lived in the township for 16 years, says she spent about a year considering a campaign before deciding to run. She points to what she describes as discord on council and says residents deserve more choice at the ballot box
She says her experience with the school board and her union has helped her develop leadership skills, including serving as a committee chair.
Brown also says Rideau Lakes needs to prepare for major changes that could come with the proposed ALTO high-speed rail project.
Brown says another priority would be addressing the township’s municipal building, which she describes as a health and safety concern for staff.
Brown says she would also push for the return to in-person council meetings and clearer meeting procedures, including the use of Robert’s Rules of Orders, which are guidelines that keep a meeting organized, fair and democratic, giving everyone a chance to speak and helping the group make decisions.
She says her campaign is ultimately about supporting residents, township staff and the community’s long-term future.
