Carleton Place Councillor Mark Hinton says serving the community over the past four years has strengthened his understanding of municipal government and the responsibility that comes with representing residents.
He said the decision to run for re-election was an easy one.
Before being elected to council, Hinton served as chair of the Downtown Carleton Place BIA, working with local businesses, residents and the Town during a challenging period.
He brings more than 35 years of professional experience in advertising, marketing, media and business.
Hinton says that background has reinforced the importance of communication, collaboration, strategic planning and responsible decision-making.
During his first term on council, Hinton has gained experience dealing with municipal budgets, infrastructure, planning and development, recreation and the challenges of managing a rapidly growing community. Hinton says one of the most important lessons from his first term is the value of teamwork.
He believes council members will not always agree, but respectful debate, listening to residents, asking difficult questions and working collaboratively with council and Town staff lead to better decisions.
Hinton says his combination of business experience, community involvement and four years of municipal government experience has prepared him to continue serving Carleton Place. He says all this and his communication style brings much to the council table.
