Marlene Donoghue is running for Perth town council, bringing a background in government work, retail, volunteerism and community involvement to the campaign.
Donoghue says her decision to seek a seat on council comes from wanting to give back to the community she has called home since moving to Perth in 2019, along with comments she’s heard from the public on past poor Townhall performance.
Earlier in her career, Donoghue worked in several federal government departments.
As a mother, she was also active in community organizations, volunteering at her children’s school and church and serving on committees with the Order of the Eastern Star and Orleans United Church.
She later spent 24 years working in retail at various stores and shopping malls from Kanata to Orleans.
Since moving to Perth, Donoghue has continued that community involvement.
She has volunteered with the Green Party, Maplefest, the Christmas House Tour organized by the University Women’s Organization and the Perth Night Market.
She has also just completed her fourth year volunteering with the Stewart Park Festival.
Donoghue has worked locally at Independent, Chocolate Works and the Sunflower Bakery, giving her experience dealing directly with people in the Perth community.
She says that combination of government experience, volunteer work, retail experience and local involvement would be an asset on council and she places a high value on teamwork.
Donoghue says Perth is now her hometown, and she wants to use her experience and community connections to help shape the town’s future. You can hear our complete conversation with Donoghue below.
