Dave Bird has over 43 years of public service, spanning a policing career in London, the Perth Police Service, and the OPP.
A recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal for Community Service, he is well-known locally as a former Schools Liaison Officer and a 30-year community theatre veteran with strong public speaking skills. He explains, why after two terms as a Perth councillor, he decided to run for mayor.
With two terms on Perth Council—including six years chairing the finance committee—Dave understands the realities of municipal management.
Grounded in integrity, he rejects unrealistic promises and pledges not to use Strong Mayor Powers, focusing instead on consensus-building and open community dialogue.
He says that focus and his experience in team leadership bring much to the table.
His platform targets three priorities. First, by approaching the daily and future challenges the Town must rise to and by long term, big picture fiscal and operational perspective.
Second, he will tackle Perth’s aging infrastructure by maximizing grants, cost sharing responsible borrowing to repair century-old roads and sewers.
Finally, he will upgrade recreational spaces for families and seniors by pursuing upper-tier grants, corporate naming rights, and cost-sharing partnerships with neighbouring municipalities.
