A 21-year-old Smiths Falls man has been charged after police responded to a report of four males allegedly trying to gain access to parked vehicles.
The Smiths Falls Police Service received the report on Aug. 29, 2026, involving vehicles on Lombard Street.
Officers arrived in the area within minutes and located four individuals matching the descriptions provided to police.
Police say the individuals fled on foot when they saw officers.
A brief foot pursuit followed, with officers safely taking one male into custody.
The 21-year-old Smiths Falls man has been charged with theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with an undertaking.
Police say the accused was released from custody on conditions and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Police are continuing efforts to identify and locate the three other males who were allegedly involved.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
