Smiths Falls council has expressed support for renaming part of Confederation Drive “Veterans Way” in honour of local veterans.
The proposal came from the Smiths Falls Legion, which presented the request to council last October. Council directed staff to research the possible street name change.
Planning Clerk Marie Elmsley said there’s no cost to residents to make the change.
The proposed section of Confederation Drive includes the Parks Canada Combined Locks Station, which is the only address affected by the change.
The town also sought comments from departments, agencies and the public. Elmsley said they received nothing but support.
Councillor Jay Brennan said the name change would be nice to implement ahead of Remembrance Day on November 11th.
The formal renaming is expected to be approved at the next council meeting.
