Paul Quinnel says affordable housing, responsible growth and opportunities for younger residents would be among his priorities if elected to Perth town council.
Quinnel is running for council in the Oct. 26 municipal election. He says he wants to give residents aged 40 and under a stronger voice at town hall.
He says the town needs to find ways to keep people in Perth as development continues.
Quinnel says the town should also work with Lanark County and the province to help people receiving disability or other forms of assistance affordable housing.
On the proposed ALTO high-speed rail project, Quinnel says he supports the concept of high-speed rail but believes more transparent information is needed.
He says Perth should seek benefits from the project, even if the town does not receive a station.
Quinnel also says strong-mayor powers can be useful when used appropriately, but he would prefer some powers be delegated to the chief administrative officer.
He previously worked in federal border and correctional services and as a municipal sports development officer in England.
Quinnel says he is also concerned about infrastructure costs associated with new development and wants developers to cover those costs.
