Two students are taking on new leadership roles representing more than 14,000 students across the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario.
Saanvi Uniyal, a Grade 12 student at St. Joseph’s Catholic Secondary School, has been installed as the board’s Student Trustee for the 2026-27 school year. She takes over the position from Junior Malunda.
Duncan King, a Grade 11 student at St. John Catholic High School, is serving as Associate Student Trustee. King was installed during the board’s August 25 meeting.
The student trustees will lead the board’s Student Senate, which discusses student issues, gathers feedback and helps communicate with students across CDSBEO schools.
The Senate also provides student council leaders and senators with opportunities to build leadership skills.
Board Chair Chris Cummings says student voice plays an important role in the board’s work and that the trustees will represent their fellow students throughout the coming school year.
The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario operates 39 elementary and 10 secondary schools across eight counties.
The board says it looks forward to working with the student trustees throughout the 2026-27 school year.
