On October 1st, the Carleton Place and District Chamber of Commerce hosted a municipal all-candidates event at the arena with about 100 residents in attendance. The night was live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.
All 11 candidates, comprised of five incumbents and six challengers answered a variety of questions on growth and infrastructure, economy and municipal finances, and community and leadership.
Candidates and the audience were focused on responses and reacted appropriately without any outbursts or negative comments.
MyFM’s Brian Turner moderated the evening and afterwards asked audience members of their opinions and if what they heard helped them form or change their voting intentions.
When the moderated questions were all answered with time to spare, Turner asked all the candidates what they would do when faced with an issue they and residents disagreed on its solution. The general consensus was that they would act in the community’s best interests regardless of their personal or public opinions.
Audience members found the evening helpful in informing their choices.
The Town will be mailing out voting PINs shortly and electronic or phone-in voting will begin October 19th and closes at 8 pm on October 26th, election day.
