Eastern Ontario’s $300-million cell coverage project is nearly complete, but service problems in Perth and other rural areas remain a concern.
The Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) provided an update on its cellular project, reporting significant improvements in coverage across Lanark County and the wider region.
CEO Jason St. Pierre says they’re nearly at the finish line.
EORN expects final coverage to reach 99.7 per cent for voice, 99.2 per cent for standard data and 97.9 per cent for high-definition services.
St. Pierre did note that there is a service problem in Perth, which Rogers is investigating.
Another tower is expected to receive Rogers equipment in 2027 to help address capacity concerns.
The project is about 98 per cent complete overall, with four new towers still to be built. All planned sites in Lanark County are complete, including 17 new cell sites, 10 upgraded sites and five locations where equipment was added to existing towers.
