Tourism supports a large portion of the job market in Smiths Falls, according to figures shared with town council as officials prepare to put a revised destination plan into action.
Ingrid Brom, the town’s manager of economic development, says the plan was updated after consultations with local businesses, town departments and regional tourism partners.
The town also reviewed visitor information, website traffic and social media data to better understand who visits Smiths Falls and what attracts them.
One priority is attracting more American visitors and encouraging boaters travelling along the Rideau Canal. Brom says the town targets south of the border tourists already on social media, but plan to expand that approach.
The implementation plan includes partner training, social media resources and the development of new tourism products and services in 2027 and beyond.
