Smiths Falls is preparing to recruit new members for its municipal boards and committees after the October 26th municipal election.
Clerk Kerry Costello is recommending recruitment begin immediately after the election to avoid delays in the work of committees that help guide local decisions.
The proposed timeline is part of an effort to update the town’s appointment policy, which staff say needs clearer rules for recruiting members, establishing committees and managing applications.
Costello says the town has struggled with vacancies over this council term.
The revised policy would provide a more defined process for filling positions, particularly when vacancies could affect a committee’s ability to reach quorum.
The updated policy is expected to return to council at a future meeting, with formal appointments targeted for the first week of December.
