Tay Valley Township Councillor Greg Hallam wants to take his experience and community involvement to the next level.
Hallam is running for deputy reeve after serving three non-consecutive terms on council, totaling 12 years.
Speaking with LanarkLeedsToday.ca, Hallam said the position would give him more opportunities to advocate for the township at the county and provincial levels.
He points to provincial grants that helped improve accessibility at Maberly Hall and support community programs.
Hallam says maintaining personal connections with residents is equally important.
Looking ahead, Hallam says recreation programs are important for attracting younger families and supporting the township’s volunteer fire department.
He also believes the municipality must continue working with neighbouring communities to provide recreational facilities and services.
One major priority involves the township’s landfill property.
Hallam says the purchase of 78 additional acres creates opportunities to improve waste management and plan for future municipal needs.
Hallam also wants officials to examine whether the former Perth Community Care building could eventually be used for affordable housing or child care.
On taxes, he acknowledges rising municipal costs but says the goal should be maintaining services while making the best possible use of available funding.
