A community project that started with a simple idea could soon take another major step forward, bringing even more opportunities for kids and families in Perth.
The Perth FireDawgs are getting closer to their goal of putting a permanent roof over their outdoor rink beside the Perth Fire Hall.
Fire Chief Trevor Choffe says the project has grown well beyond what organizers originally imagined, thanks to tremendous community support.
A roof would also provide shade during warmer weather, making the facility more comfortable for basketball and other activities throughout the summer.
And the rink isn’t just for FireDawgs participants. It’s a community space where everyone is welcome to get active and have fun.
Choffe says the project is now within reach of another major milestone.
The FireDawgs recently received recognition at the local business awards gala, something Choffe says reflects the generosity of the entire community.
For Choffe, who grew up in Perth, helping young people discover sports is deeply personal. He remembers the excitement of having opportunities to play as a child.
Anyone interested in supporting the roof project can contact the FireDawgs at PerthFireDogs@gmail.com or reach out to the Perth Fire Hall.
With continued community support, the dream of a year-round recreational space is getting closer to reality.
