The shelves at the Lanark County Food Bank
The RCL Automotive Build a Mountain of Food campaign is celebrating 20 years of helping local families, and the anniversary campaign kicks off Saturday in Carleton Place and Almonte.
The annual food drive is once again bringing volunteers, businesses and residents together to support the Lanark County Food Bank, also known as The Hunger Stop.
Food bank manager Tammy Parent says there’s plenty of excitement surrounding this year’s milestone.
The campaign will collect donations at three Carleton Place locations: Independent, FreshCo and Giant Tiger. Johnson’s Independent in Almonte is also participating.
While food donations are always welcome, Parent says some everyday necessities are especially important.
Other welcome donations include children’s snacks, juice boxes and nutritional drinks such as Boost and Ensure.
Cash donations are equally valuable. Parent says they allow the food bank to buy discounted items in bulk and purchase fresh essentials, including milk, eggs, meat and produce, based on what families actually need.
Some participating stores are offering pre-packed donation bags, while Johnson’s Independent in Almonte has a virtual donation bag available at checkout.
Parent says the campaign’s success comes from the generosity of residents, volunteers and local businesses who continue to support their neighbours.
