A six-year-old child has died following Friday afternoon’s three-vehicle crash on Highway 15 near Lombardy.
Leeds County OPP say the collision happened at about 5 p.m. near Otter Lake Park in Rideau Lakes Township.
Police say the crash involved two cars and an ambulance. The ambulance was returning to base at the time and had no patients on board.
The driver of one of the vehicles, a 34-year-old man from Elizabethtown-Kitley, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A six-year-old boy who was a passenger in the same vehicle was airlifted to hospital by Ornge air ambulance with life-threatening injuries. Police have now confirmed the child has died.
The driver and passenger of the ambulance were both taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver and only person in the third vehicle suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.
The crash has sent shock through the wider Leeds County and Rideau Lakes area, where first responders, families and community members are now left grieving another heartbreaking loss on a busy regional highway.
OPP say the investigation remains ongoing. Police have not released further details about what led to the head-on collision.
