A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support a local family after Friday evening’s fatal crash on Highway 15 near Lombardy.
Leeds County OPP say the three-vehicle collision happened May 29 at about 5 p.m. between County Road 1 and County Road 5, near Otter Lake Park.
Police say the crash involved two cars and an ambulance. The ambulance was returning to base and had no patients on board at the time.
A 34-year-old Elizabethtown-Kitley man was pronounced dead at the scene. A young child in the same vehicle was airlifted by Ornge air ambulance to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.
The two paramedics in the ambulance were taken to The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus with serious injuries. Officials later confirmed both were treated and released. The driver and only person in the third vehicle suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.
The online fundraiser says the crash has left a grieving mother facing an unimaginable loss, while her young child remains in hospital fighting for their life. The family is also mourning the loss of their dog in the collision.
The fundraiser says donations will help ease financial pressure and provide stability as the mother focuses on healing, caring for her newborn baby and supporting her injured child.
Organizers say people who cannot give financially can still help by sharing the fundraiser or keeping the family in their thoughts.
Highway 15 was closed for several hours while emergency crews responded and police investigated.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash is asked to contact Leeds County OPP.
