CFUW's Margaret White (MBC News)
The Canadian Federation of University Women Perth and District is bringing back one of its biggest community fundraisers with a new storybook twist.
The third annual Home and Garden Tour runs Saturday, July 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Perth. CFUW member Margaret White told our Lynda D’Aoust the event supports the group’s long-standing mission of helping women and girls through education.
White says the tour is the club’s major fundraiser, with proceeds going mainly to its Education Awards Fund. The fund helps support young women pursuing post-secondary education. Since 1999, CFUW Perth and District has awarded almost $300,000 in the area.
And she told Lynda, the fundraiser has continued to grow.
This year’s event includes eight stops, with each location featuring a garden and four also opening their homes. Each stop will have a storybook theme, with examples including Anne of Green Gables and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Volunteers and ticket holders are encouraged to dress in costume, with a prize for the best one.
White says the day is designed to be a joyful experience, with homes, gardens, music, art and lunch options.
The event is also strongly supported by local businesses, restaurants, sponsors and donors. A community-backed raffle will feature about $6,000 in prizes.
Tickets are $35 through Tickets Please and select local retailers. More information is available through CFUW Perth and District.
