The Table Community Food Centre in Perth is helping residents find more than food, with community supports aimed at building stronger connections and opening doors to local services.
Advocacy coordinator Lori Benda says her role focuses on helping people access supports beyond their immediate need for food.
Through its Community Navigator’s Office, The Table provides resources, referrals and help connecting with social services across Lanark County. Navigators are available Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Benda says the work includes helping people find financial relief programs, including utility support, while guiding them through services that can sometimes feel overwhelming.
She says the goal is to help residents gain confidence and learn what is available, so they can take the next steps for themselves.
The Table also recently wrapped up an income tax clinic offered in partnership with ConnectWell. Benda says that service was well used and helped connect people with other supports, including ODSP, Ontario Works and disability-related programs.
Several July events are also planned. The Buzz returns Wednesday, July 15, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., offering coffee, crafts and connection.
On Monday, July 20, Rideau Community Health Services will visit from 1 to 3 p.m. with dental team members helping with Canada Dental Plan applications. A community support worker will also help people apply for a birth certificate at no cost. An ODSP caseworker will be on site from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
The LIFT Team, or Lanark Integrated Frontline Team, visits Wednesday, July 29, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Benda says collaboration is also growing between Perth and Smiths Falls through the Falls Food Hub which will have similar services at their new Chamber St. location shortly.
