Elementary and secondary schools in Bruce County will be closed on Wednesday.
Officials with the Bluewater District School Board announced the decision on Monday after a meeting with the strike contingency committee.
This is in response to a plan by the Ontario Secondary School Teacher Federation to have their teachers and education workers stage a one-day strike Wednesday.
In an open letter to parents, Director of Education Alana Murray says the full withdrawal of services would put the school board in a compromised position.
She says these groups perform critically important functions that ensure the safety and well-being of all students within their care.
The school closure means all extracurricular activities/events and field trips planned for that day will be rescheduled if possible.
School based co-op placements, before and after school programs will be cancelled and there will be no bus transportation for students.
Third party child care centres will remain open, and Community Education evening programs will continue to run.
Schools are expected to return to normal operations on Thursday.
