The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario is putting pressure on the government.
The ETFO says unless an agreement between the union and the province is reached by January 31st, rotating strikes will continue.
ETFO President Sam Hammond said in a statement “from ETFO’s perspective, fair contract talks must include: appropriate funding for Special Education; a strategy to address classroom violence; maintaining the internationally recognized Kindergarten program; fair hiring practices; class sizes that meet the needs of elementary students; and compensation that keeps up with inflation.”
Locally, teachers in the Bluewater District School Board will walk off the job for one-day next Monday.
The Avon Maitland District School Board ETFO members will be doing a one day strike the following day.
The ETFO also announced that one week from this Thursday, there will be a one day strike for all 83 thousand members.
