The Ontario Public Service Employees Union’s college faculty bargaining team has told colleges that they will go on strike on Friday if the institutions don’t agree to binding interest arbitration.
That would affect students at Algonquin College’s three campuses, including its Perth Campus.
The union recommended its members reject the colleges’ final offer in January.
Colleges and Universities Minister Jill Dunlop says she has heard from parents and students who are very upset about the possibility of a strike and “cannot afford a strike at this time.”
A five-week college faculty strike took place back in 2017. It ended when the provincial government legislated employees back to work.
