The town of Smiths Falls is entering an agreement next week with Enterprise Fleet Management to oversee the upkeep and buying and selling of their light duty vehicles.
A subsidiary of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the company has contracts and the backing of many municipalities across the province.
Public Works Director Paul McMunn told council this agreement will save the town a pretty penny.
Through their data collection, Enterprise identifies the sweet spot of a vehicle’s lifespan, and when it’s time to rotate the fleet.
They anticipate shortening the existing average 16-year lifespan of the Town’s vehicles to 2-5 years.
By reducing the lifespan of the cars out on the road and knowing when it’s time to buy or sell through the data they collect, EFM estimates a total of $100,000 of savings to the town over a decade. A figure Councillor Jay Brennan easily got behind.
