Lanark County is pausing a request for proposal issued earlier this month after concern from a local organization.
Climate Network Lanark took issue with the RFP which sought bidders to convert electrical heating in three of the county’s large social houses to natural gas.
Warden John Fenik says this dominated the discussion at the latest Climate Action Committee meeting on which he sits, and they came up with another proposal.
Councillor Barrie Crampton said a motion like this reaffirms the importance of having a climate lens on decisions being made.
The RFP is now paused, and staff will file a full report about greenhouse gas and financial implications to retrofitting the heat systems of the buildings.
