The Town of Smiths Falls is getting almost $3.7 million from in government funding for its new water tower.
The funding comes through a successful application submitted in September last year to help offset the $8.5 million price tag for the project.
In a media release Mayor Shawn Pankow said the needs for water grow alongside the community, and the new tower will fit the demand in the present and future.
Director of Public Works and Utilities Paul McMunn says the timing couldn’t be better. They estimate the current tower to be 100 years old and maintenance costs climb each year it’s not replaced.
The new tower will be on Air Care Drive and able to hold up to five times of water than the existing one, meeting the needs of the growing town.
