
Carleton Place celebrated National Indigenous Peoples Day yesterday at a new gathering place in Riverside Park.
The new Mississippi River gathering place, Misi Zibi Mamidosewin was home to its first celebration on Tuesday as residents gathered for a formal pipe ceremony, smudging, drumming, song, dance and stories.
Deb Lytle, of Carleton Place explained why it’s important for all Canadians to mark National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Future development of the sight will see a plaque placed on the river bank outlining the Indigenous and natural history of the area
