Monday morning at Lower Reach Park was the date and time for an exercise class for a local group of people with Parkinson’s called Boxing Ties, and they were joined by two men on their own journey.
Jim Redmond of Ottawa and Steve Iseman of Toronto are traveling across Canada by bicycle as part of the Spinning Wheels Tour to raise money and awareness for the fasted growing neurological disease in the world.
Redmond was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 7 years ago at the age of 44, and Iseman was diagnosed 9 years ago at the age of 48.
The pair began their journey two months ago in Victoria, BC and will wrap it up in about a month in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
It’s a trek Iseman says has come with a lot of highlights.
Redmond said the battle with Parkinson’s at times can be more mental than physical, but events like this help.
Boxing is an ideal sport for those with Parkinson’s because of the explosive movement required, local advocates and SuperWalk co-chairs Pat Evans and Gayle Truman told Lake 88.
The SuperWalk for Parkinson’s Event takes place September 10th at Conlon Farm in Perth. You can register or donate here.
Story by Grant Deme
My husband first symptoms of Parkinson’s occurred during covid, but was diagnosed in 2021 when he was 61 years. He was on Levodopa- not crazy about it! he was also on Sifrol and rotigotine not crazy about any of it either, The Levodopa did very little to help him. The medical team did even less. His decline was rapid and devastating. He had a stooped posture, tremors, muscle stiffness and even slow movements. I was a master Gardener and love herbs! This Parkinson’s took my life from me, I was no longer able to work in my garden anymore because I was a full time caregiver for my husband. We stopped most of his Parkinson’s medications due to severe side effects and I started him on Ayurvedic treatments from Natural Herbs Centre the treatment has made a very huge difference for him. His symptoms including body weakness, tremors and slurred speech disappeared after few months on the treatment. He is getting active again since starting this treatment, he is able to walk and able to ride his treadmill again.. This Ayurvedic treatment is a miracle!! I can personally vouch for these remedy but you would probably need to decide what works best for you
