The long-time Conservative MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston, Scott Reid is commenting on his party’s prospects now that it has elected Pierre Poilievre as leader.
In his role as caucus chair, Reid thought it best to remain neutral and not cast a ballot in the leadership race.
Reid says he has never regretted that decision.
He says the reason Pollievre won with a 68% of the vote is because he was able to attract huge numbers of new members to the party.
Reid denies those new members are extremists instead saying they understand the politics behind Poilievres ideals. He also says the new leader doesn’t have to compromise like other leaders who have won on the second or third ballot would have to.
Overall, Reid says he is happy with the results and believes Poilievre will be the next Prime Minister of Canada.
