An all-candidates meeting took place in Smiths Falls Wednesday night at the Memorial Community Centre where 12 councillors and two mayoral candidates discussed hot button issues.
Candidates Dawn Quinn was not in attendance due to illness, and Chris Samure had earlier withdrawn from the race.
Discussed at length was the Confederation Bridge and what the future of the out of commission bridge should be.
Public transportation and climate change were also topics of discussion, as was the potential of moving from community policing to being covered by the OPP.
The candidates stuck within their allotted response time and kept things cordial throughout.
The mayoral clash between incumbent Shawn Pankow and Justin Duhamel saw the challenger throw a few barbs the mayor’s way, but Pankow largely ignored the comments. He did challenge Duhamel on some claims made regarding the town’s financial situation and the growth seen during the past four years.
